1st 2 Races of 2012

So much has happened since my last blog, I have run in two races and got two personal bests.

Race 1: Alsager 5 mile race and there was a worry that the race would be off,  the snow started to come down at 3pm on Saturday and didn’t stop until the early hours of Sunday morning FreezingAlsager 5 flying shot1Despite the appalling weather the reports on Twitter and Facebook was that the race was still on and the roads were clear, well clear ish anyway. Sharon had agreed to let me grab a lift with her,
The Alsager 5 is quite a big race and I understand that it is part of a larger race scene, something do with national champions not that it phased me, I was going to run my race no one else’s.
The race, despite the weather, was a great little run, 1st on of the year and the nerves were a little on edge and the 1st few miles were a little tough, but before I knew it 3 miles had flown by and I only had 2 to go and the finish was soon around the next corner.  With a new personal best of 42:02 a full minute of my previous 5 mile race, RESULT Thumbs up
Race 2Brighton “Ultra” Half Marathon I had decided for my 1st half of the year to just head out and enjoy the race; it was a lovely morning for a run, the was a clear sunny day Sun and even had a light breeze.  Whilst enjoying the run I noticed that the mile markers where out……at first I thought it was my watch but it was out by over 0.4Kirsten Brightonand I am sure that Garmin is not normally that bad I don't know smile However there was little I could do about it at the time and all I needed to was finish my race and I did and with a time of 1:53:07 and it was just under a minute quicker which was great and 2nd race of the year and 2nd personal best RESULT.
However there story does not end there….from the official race website
“Brighton Half Marathon 2012 distance acknowledgement” Race Organisers of the Brighton Half Marathon have acknowledged today (Monday 20th February) that due to human error the course was extended to a total distance of 13.42 miles.”
I am not really upset about the extended distance and would prefer to run too long than too short,so what the organisers have done is adjusted everyone’s finishing time so my AT (adjusted time) is now 1:50:28 which over 3 minutes off my half marathon PB. However I not going to take it as PB as it is adjusted and want to have a full half time, so maybe Liverpool in March will be the one.
I would like to knock a few minutes of my PB which stands at 1:54:08, maybe in-keeping with my 8  theme I could knock off 8 minutes and finish the year with a half marathon personal best of 1:46.
